VIENNA- Lois Jean Mattes, 79, a resident of Vienna passed away peacefully surrounded by her family and in the comfort of her home on Friday morning April 12, 2019 following a brief struggle with acute myeloid leukemia.
She was born on July 30, 1939 in New Castle, PA a daughter of Joseph and Margaret “Effie” Wojnar. Lois was a graduate of Shenango High School and had attended business school following graduation.
Lois had worked for the former Giuliano’s Restaurant in Brookfield for several years before it’s closing and later at the Brookfield Diner before retirement. When there was time, she had enjoyed traveling with her husband Carl and loved being outside working in her yard. She also loved spending time with her two cats Mamma Kitty and Boomer.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories her daughter Kim Svirbly and her husband Francis; her grandchildren Stephen and his wife Jenny, Aaron, Katelyn, Nathan, and Ryan; her great-grandson Jackson as well as one that is also on the way; her sister Mary (Pat) Padovano; and by several nieces and nephews.
Lois was preceded in death by her husband Carl whom she married on April 8, 1991, her brother Joey and infant brother Frank, and by her sisters Anna Schenker, Frances Yasher, and Jean Tomko.
Friends may pay their respects from 5:00 PM -7:00PM on Monday evening at the Dillon & Santucci Funeral Home 4471 Warren-Sharon Road Vienna, Ohio 44473.
The Very Rev. Frank Zanni V.F. will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial for Lois on Tuesday morning beginning at 10:30 AM in the St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Vienna, Ohio. Burial will follow at the Brookfield Township Cemetery.
